The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London will take place on Monday, 17th December – but rather than a normal meeting, with a guest speaker, this last meeting before Christmas has instead been scheduled as the group’s informal Christmas Meal.
This is because the normal venue for ROUGOL’s meetings, the upstairs restaurant in the Blue-Eyed Maid, tends to be in high demand at this time of year. Therefore, the group may have to meet downstairs, in the bar – making it an ideal opportunity for those attending to discuss what has happened in the RISC OS World over the course of 2018, as well as what they hope and expect to happen in the coming year.
Other than possibly being in the bar, rather than upstairs in the restaurant, the meeting will take place from 7:45pm at:

The meeting is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. The venue serves a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and has both English and Indian menus.
It is easy to reach by public transport, being located between Borough and London Bridge tube stations, and these are only short trips from a couple of mainline stations: London Bridge is ten minutes and two stops on the Jubilee line from Waterloo, while Borough is twenty minutes from Euston and Kings Cross/St Pancras, heading southbound on the Bank branch of the Northern line.

Looking ahead to meetings in the new year, while the subject of January’s meeting is still to be confirmed, February’s meeting – which will take place on 18th February – will see Chris Cox visiting the group to give a talk. A name any that should be recognised by those who used the RISC OS platform in the 1990s, Chris was one of Acorn’s main public faces at shows at the time, and was also head of The Clan – Acorn’s official user group. He also became manager of the Computer Business Unit of Acorn RISC Technologies (ART), and was responsible for the launch of StronARM in 1996.
Chris will be talking about his time at ART, as well as answering questions, and will be able to offer an insight into the company’s successes and failures, as well as the days leading up to Acorn’s closure.
